Thanks to a new integration with Shopify POS, Venn Apps makes it easy for brands to create a true omnichannel loyalty experience. With a mobile app and a built-in wallet pass, customers can quickly scan their phone in-store to collect points when they make a purchase.
The best part? Brands can keep using their existing loyalty programs to manage points, tiers, and personalised rewards. Customers can check their loyalty status and rewards straight from the app and get push notifications when there’s something new to enjoy.
It’s a highly effective way to drive more in-store visits, build stronger customer loyalty, and keep shoppers engaged wherever they are.
We sat down with our Co-Founder, Josh, to explore the strategy, use cases, and future of omnichannel loyalty at Venn Apps.
🧠 Vision & Strategy
Q1: What does “omnichannel” mean to you in the context of mobile apps and retail?
Omnichannel is about creating a connected customer journey across both digital and physical storefronts.
Mobile apps play a crucial role here - they live on the customer’s home screen, are easy to use, and let brands communicate in real time through push notifications. That makes them the ideal hub for unified shopping and loyalty experiences, while a native mobile wallet pass adds an additional layer of customer convenience.
Q2: Why launch mobile wallet loyalty cards now?
It’s a convergence of timing and market need. In 2025, customer acquisition costs are still rising, and brands are focused on retention. At the same time, Shopify is doubling down on unified commerce - making it easier than ever for eCommerce brands to extend into physical retail. Loyalty and omnichannel are increasingly becoming a primary focus for large eCommerce brands. That’s why we built this.
Q3: What pain point does this solve for brands?
Apps already drive retention by integrating with loyalty programs. But as more digital-first brands open physical stores, there’s a growing need to sync loyalty across channels. With a built-in mobile wallet pass, customers can scan a QR code in-store, earn points, track their tier, and receive relevant offers all from the app. This removes friction and keeps your brand top-of-mind - wherever customers are shopping.

🛠️ Behind the Build
Q4: What’s the in-store experience like for customers and staff?
It couldn’t be simpler. Customers just open their Apple Wallet and scan their pass at the till. Staff scan it with a QR code scanner that we’ve built to work directly with the Shopify POS app, so no extra hardware needed.
Q5: How did Shopify POS make this possible?
Shopify POS is incredibly developer-friendly. Its unified customer profiles and order history mean we can easily build features that span online and in-store. It’s clear Shopify is investing heavily in in-person retail, and our platform now lets brands tap into that momentum.

🔗 Integrations & Ecosystem
Q6: Can this integrate with LoyaltyLion, Yotpo, or other loyalty providers?
Absolutely. We’ve designed this to work with the loyalty stack you already use. Points and rewards from in-store purchases sync directly with platforms like LoyaltyLion or Yotpo. Customers can view their points and tier status right in their mobile app, with full integration into existing loyalty workflows.
Q7: Can brands use this feature without a third-party loyalty provider?
Yes! Venn Apps can manage points and tiers directly through Shopify. Brands can then personalise the in-app experience based on each customer’s loyalty level, using the Venn Apps CMS and tags in Shopify’s backend.
Q8: Is this exclusive to Shopify POS?
While it’s built primarily for Shopify POS, we also support other systems like Goodtill by SumUp. We're open to expanding this further based on demand.
💡 Use Cases & Early Feedback
Q9: Which types of brands are most excited about this feature?
We’re seeing a lot of enthusiasm from FMCG brands (ike Origin Coffee) and premium fashion brands investing in in-store experiences. These are verticals where high-frequency shopping or strong brand affinity really reward omnichannel engagement.
Q10: What’s the feedback from early adopters?
Origin Coffee has been using this for a little while and the results speak for themselves: they’re seeing a clear increase in customers shopping across in-store and online. The convenience and consistency are key to this.
Q11: What’s a powerful way brands could use this to drive footfall?
One example I really like is the use of geo-targeted push notifications. A customer walks by your store, their phone buzzes with a “Redeem your reward in-store” alert. It’s personalised, timely, and engaging. We’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible here.
